Going to work!

Early this morning the doodles told me that they were going to work!
In this photo they are deciding what to do and where to go to be of greatest service.

I saw Ollie running intently this way,
and later that way!
So focused was Ollie's determination that it distracted Augustus-he just laid on his side trying to see what was to come out of all this back and forth! (PS-Ollie usually horses around if you must know)
Ollie returned Gus' look of astonishment with another gaze that had me astonished!!
I followed him to see what he was going to do today and it turned out that he was getting ready to pot some flowers...

Gus went to his customer service desk!
Today I learned from these doodle boys to go to work at least with determination if not with anything else.

Boys read this later at home:

"...the conception of work needs to transcend just the economic dimension and encompass also the human and social purpose that employment fulfills.
Work needs to be seen not only as a means to securing an individual and family’s basic needs, but also as a channel to developing one’s craft, refining one’s character, and contributing to the welfare and progress of society.
Work, no matter how humble and simple, when performed with an attitude of service, is a means to contribute to the advancement of our communities, countries and global society..."

(BIC statement to UN 2008)

Our little boys though very exhausted with work managed to fill their paws with kisses to blow to their friends! Ciao!

  1. Amen to that! I remember reading something in Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance that read something like: you should do your job as though you are doing it for someone you love very much, wanting them to be as gratified by it as possible.
I read that when I was 19 and it has never left my heart.

  2. Allison, I love that idea...very ennobling, isn't it? And somehow I knew that you (and others I know) practice that philosophy! Have a lovely day!

  3. ...OH...& i was going to pun you...but then i came across THIS in my daily reader...love rules:

When you work you are a flute through whose heart the whispering of the hours turns to music. to love life through labor is to be intimate with life's inmost secret. All work is empty save when there is love, for work is love made visible. ~Kahlil Gibran

  4. Yes, work should be all that -- and oh, if we all could work like cats. ;)
