I heard his repeated meows, gentle but persistent. I finally decided that the cat was summoning, and so I went out to see Mr Sweet Pants with his lizard.
Wow! "Good Boy", I said. This must be his first lizard!
He looked at it,
touched it with gentle paws to make it move,
held it in place gently when it wanted to run away,
watched it with curiosity,
tried to engage it in some game! This went on for quite some time.
I have to admit that I have yet to see a more relaxed lizard.
He picked it up gently to move to another place for chasing, he sniffed it and kissed it.
Clever boy placed his paw on the tail just to make sure.
A very lazy lizard, thought Augustus to himself.
Finally, he decided that this was not all that interesting, and shared this with me,
“Learning to let go should be learned before learning to get. Life should be touched, not strangled. You’ve got to relax, let it happen at times, and at others move forward with it.”
which I found to be too profound for a cat.
Ollie thought that this was all too strange, and did not know what had to be touched and not strangled.
The two wondered "what next?"
I thought it interesting that their genetic information bank did not have much information on lizards but a lot on birds, fish and mice, bugs, butterflies and rabbits.
Cat boys sent you sweet greetings!
Ciao everyone!
PS- the lizard was not harmed and went its merry way later that day
This made me smile and contemplate.
ReplyDeleteJob well done Cat Boys and Mona!
XO
XO back to you from us all. They take us on adventures...happy friday dear friend from afar xx
DeleteHow interesting indeed. I suppose that lizards and cats are suited for very different climates, and so the cat does not know to kill the lizard, and the lizard does not know to fear the cat... I wish it could be this way for people... That is a beautiful and helpful quote. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteGreat to see you Jenn...you know I am always learning something from these kitts...Happy Friday to you!
DeleteHow interesting that the lizard didn't panic when he was in Mr. Sweet Pant's mouth. My cat started life in the Caribbean and he hunted and ate the geckos all the time, in fact the geckos are like an hallucinogenic drug to cats. My kitty was a drug addict. True story. Xo's to you and the cat boys.
ReplyDeleteShannonAnn, this is very interesting, so here we have the influence of environment. Gussy sniffed the lizard a lot but not much interest! Great to see you xxx
DeleteHappy New Year dear Mona and cat boys! I hope all is well at your house and that the new year brings all good things! XO's

ReplyDeleteNot only did these darling pictures amuse, not only did your storytelling delight, but I am chanting those wise words from Ray Bradbury. All day long. I needed to read that quote! I shall follow. ;)
Thank you, Mona.
Thank you for your kindness...couldn't watch animals for ever, really? I need to read that quote too, again and again, so I don't strangle life xx
Deletewonderful; poor lizard, but enchanting story
ReplyDeleteso good to see you here...the lizard was fine, just having a supernatural experience : )
Deletei love this.
ReplyDeleteespecially the quote.
and most of all, that the lizard lived through its encounter with gussy pants.
that was one amazing lizard...I figure he was really hibernating and thinking this was all a poky type of dream : )
DeleteLazy lizard indeed, stiff joints maybe ;) Augustus is such a wise old boy and so generous to share it with you and us! :)
